Promoting Scottish Jazz since 1992 |
||
History Cont. After a good stint at Blackfriars we decided to take up residence in The 13th Note, a new bar that was ran by an old friend Craig Tannock, who had previously been involved at Tower Studios, one of the original 'demo' studios in Glasgow and largely now passed into folklore. The 13th Note were chasing the dream of having a venue for live music but also somewhere people could experiment with all the different forms of music that were cooking away in Glasgow at the time. the 13th Note more or less became the centre for so much inovative music in Glasgow its difficult to grasp where the Scottish music scene would be without it. Basement Jazz was not only there but was part of it as well, 'indie' music and jazz in Glasgow were coming of age together. It should've lasted for ever, some of us wish it had, but eventually the pressures of too many musical forms viaing for attention under one roof meant it was time for Basement Jazz to move on. Actually it was more a kind of mutual agreement when Basement Jazz left the 13th Note, the success of the DJ who played upstairs made it tricky to have complicated thoughtful ballads down the stairs! So ended possibly the best regular jazz club that Glasgow ever had, it was not the poshest or the nicest smelling place in the city, but as a venue for jazz it was never beaten, period. |
